The ingredients needed to make Flavoured Rice with Peas:
  1. Prepare 1 cup long grain rice or basmati rice, washed and soaked for 1 hr

  5. Prepare 1/2 tsp turmeric
  6. Get 1 onion chopped
  7. Take 2 tbsp ginger, garlic, chilli and cilantro paste
  8. Prepare 2 cups stock, vegetable or chicken, which ever you fancy

This changes the flavor for the better! Oh this was wonderful served with "Maharaja Curry" and it was a restaurant-quality meal. I did add Saffron and frozen peas to the rice for color and substance. However, the sesame oil really does add the best flavor in my opinion.

Instructions to make Flavoured Rice with Peas:
  1. In a hot pan, add oil and onions, cook until translucent, now add ginger, garlic and cilantro paste and cook for a minute or two, add rice and stir fry for 3-4 minutes
  2. Now add peas, mix well, add stock, and bring to a rapid boil on high heat
  3. Turn heat to very low and let the rice cook until all the water is absorbed, fluff rice with a fork, turn heat off and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
  4. Serve as a side with protein and enjoy!

I did add Saffron and frozen peas to the rice for color and substance. However, the sesame oil really does add the best flavor in my opinion. The first time I made this, I also added frozen peas after the soy sauce and let the heat of the rice cook them through for a couple of minutes. We all really enjoyed the flavor and color the peas added but they are completely optional. For the basic rice pilaf, you will need to saute onion and garlic.
