Misal Pav Recipe, Mumbai Streetfood - Misal pav is a spicy curry made with mixed sprouts or moth beans (matki) and pav are buns (laadi pav). Misal is garnished with mix farsan (mix chiwda) on the top and also some topped with onion and tomatoes. Misal is – like most of Bombay's hallowed street foods – an explosion of flavors and textures. It's a spicy curry of sprouted beans topped with raw onions, boiled potatoes, crispy farsan (fried chickpea squiggles) and coriander leaves.
Instructions to make Misal with brown bread:
- First boil sprouted matki in pressure cooker. Make 1 or 2 whistles don't overcook.
- Now get the cooker cool. Take a pan or kadhai and take the oil into it. Heat it and add chopped onion. Put the low flame, stir continuesly till it becomes golden.
- Now add chopped tomato and stir it well and leave it for 2 minutes. After that add all spices turmeric, chilli powder, garam masala, misal masala, kashmiri powder,salt per taste and stir it well.
- Now open the cooker take matki out and add it into the pan.Now add water and stir it well. Heat it on medium flame to get it cooked well.
- After 10 minutes check the misal is ready or not. If it's ready then turn off the flame and serve hot.
- Garnish this misal with some farsan or sev and serve it with brown bread.
